Description information

Best Lifted Index: a characterization parameter of atmospheric stability. When it’s less (greater) than 0, the atmosphere is instability (stability). When it’s less (greater) than 0, the atmosphere is instability (stability). It is calculated by the temperature difference between the 500mb temperature and the temperature of a parcel which is in the most unstable layer lifted to 500mb. Negative values denote unstable conditions. BLI is more of a measure of actual "instability" than CAPE because it represents the potential buoyancy of a parcel at a level, whereas CAPE is integrated through the depth of the troposphere. The smaller the negative value for BLI, the more instable for atmosphere.
